We need your help to collect a total of 600,000 signatures by March 31st to qualify for the November 2010 ballot. Volunteer to be a petition circulator on our website.

CAS Founder Collects Signatures at a Supermarket

Last Saturday, we had a spontaneous after-lunch signature drive at our local Safeway store. I told my niece that she could be my helper. She changed into her red checkered dress and wrote "Scout" on her volunteer badge. With permission from the store, my "scout" held up the CAS banner while I asked the oncoming shoppers to sign the petition.

We met our 20-signature goal within the hour!

Instead of focusing on majority who rushed on by, we focused on the 20% who stopped to sign: Half of them thanked us for our work after signing. One man bought a bottle of water for us. Three ladies pledged to tell friends about our website. One out-of-state woman came to thank us though she couldn't sign. We even had a German who started signing his Germany address with enthusiasm before I stopped him.

20 signatures an hour is great rate! This experience confirms that people respond to our initiative differently than other initiatives. I encourage you to spend an hour at your local store. Set a goal. Target high traffic hours. Nice weather is always a plus.
